Episode 22 of "HASH IT OUT WITH JANE" on KUSF-IN-EXILE - featuring Dakota Johns

Motivational Speakers
Dakota Johns and Frank Kitchen

This episode of "HASH IT OUT WITH JANE" on KUSF-IN-EXILE was an inspiring, informative and fun show to put together.  My opportunities to converse with folks who have intellectual disabilities has been very minimal until I started hosting "HASH IT OUT WITH JANE."  Since I'm generally not the most tactful person, I was a little nervous at first but that faded quickly because of my guest's charisma and optimistic attitude.  We really had a lot of fun on the show.

My guest was Dakota Johns and his "Best Buddy," Frank Kitchen.  Dakota is a Motivational Keynote Speaker who does not allow Downs Syndrome get in his way of setting goals and achieving them.  He is also dedicated to the campaign "SPREAD THE WORD TO END THE WORD."  You may book Dakota to speak at your next event by emailing: DAKOTASPEAKS@GMAIL.COM

Episode 21 of "HASH IT OUT WITH JANE" on KUSF-IN-EXILE - featuring KOUNTERCLOCKWISE

Doing "HASH IT OUT WITH JANE" on KUSF-IN-EXILE just keeps getting more fun!  I had the pleasure of interviewing a super fun and funky hip-hop group called, KOUNTERCLOCKWISE.  They are extremely musically diverse and very down to Earth folks.  There are two main members of this ensemble, Deacon Burns and Kaya Rogue.  In the face of adversity in 2007 when Deacon became paralysed instead of giving up he just wrote more music.

If you are in Cleveland, Ohio on May 5th then don't miss KOUNTERCLOCKWISE live at the Phantasy!!!  Get your tickets right here.  Just click!!!  Their new CD, DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME" can be purchased by clicking on THIS link.

Here's to mud in your eye!

When people in my life become sick or injured, they either come to me for one of my ‘magic potions’ or they hide from me because they fear my ‘magic potions’.  Both approaches bring me a degree of amusement.  However, I’m a Healer at heart and I’d prefer to be helping someone with his or her health issue instead of laughing as they try to hide their ailment from me.

I don’t like to be pushy with my ‘alternative healing ways’ but when I see someone I know and care about suffering, I will make suggestions.  Recently, someone close to me developed a large and intrusive sty on his eyelid.  I know from my extensive training in Western Herbalism that a rigorous treatment of ‘tea bag therapy’ would likely clear up the situation.  Most people’s lifestyles don’t really allow for as much downtime as that would require though.  So I suggested the next best thing.  Coal!

Activated charcoal has been used medicinally for centuries.  It can absorb many times over its own weight in gasses, fluids, and toxins.  I always keep some charcoal capsules on hand in case of food poisoning.  (This is not a reflection on my cooking…simply a precaution.)

I seriously expected some resistance when I suggested to my ‘Subject’…”How about we make some mud out of coal and put it on your eye and see what happens?”  He must have been miserable because he was way more willing than expected.

We used about 1tsp of medical grade activated charcoal and just enough water to make a paste.  Then we put the paste on a piece of gauze and applied it directly to his eye.  Next we applied a warm, moist compress and left it on for 30 minutes.  We did one session early in the day and another later in the evening.  That’s all it took.  The coal drained all the fluid from the sty.  The eyelid is a bit dry but with proper moisturizing will be just dandy in a few days.  The ‘Subject’s’ only complaint was “That stuff is a bitch to wash off.”

If you choose to use charcoal for Healing purposes, please do your research first!

The Dancing Wheels Dance Company & School is the first integrated Dance Company that includes wheelchair-user Dancers and non-wheelchair user Dancers aka Sit Down and Stand Up Dancers.  All the Dancers were very hospitable and let me watch them rehearse!  It was amazing!  I can't wait for their next show which is on May 19th at the Allen Theatre in Cleveland, Ohio.  This is a performance that you don't want to miss!

HOPE IS NOT A PLAN

People with disabilities are the largest minority in the US. As a member of this community & a US citizen, I am very grateful for the AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT. In Canada, there isn't any legislation comparable to the ADA which leaves a very vulnerable portion of society with virtually no rights. Let's help people with disabilities in Canada gain the civil rights that we all deserve!! Just follow this link...
